Chanterelles. Heralding the Return of Autumn

Every year, the August long weekend brings a chill in the morning air. A sure sign of autumn to come. I'm not ready. We've had blazing summer days and nights this year, and I don't want to move on.
Then I spotted first-of-the-season chanterelles. Tiny and firm. Not the water logged ones we see later in the fall.
Embrace change I say.
A few shallots, fresh thyme, white wine. What lovely specimens! So willing to sit together with rice, garden beans and roast chicken. An autumnal dinner in August.

Time to move on.

  1. I'm off on a camping trip armed with a stack of your recipes. To hell with hotdogs! Thanks Shelora.
